Belgian Ford Mustang GT4 duo from TeamFloral clinches fine top ten in penultimate GT4 European Series round

Belgian Ford Mustang GT4 duo from TeamFloral clinches fine top ten in penultimate GT4 European Series round

Nürburg (DE), September 5, 2025 - For the fifth and penultimate round of the GT4 European Series, drivers and teams headed to Germany’s Nürburgring. On the menu: two sixty-minute races in which TeamFloral once again secured a top ten finish on Sunday, thanks to strong drives from Michiel Haverans and Nathan Vanspringel. The season finale of the European GT4 championship will take place on October 11-12 at Barcelona’s iconic F1 circuit, where the Belgian crew aims to close the year in their mighty Ford Mustang GT4 with a strong result.

Fighting weekend with mixed emotions

“We built up the weekend with a solid start in free practice and pre-qualifying, where fine-tuning the car setup together with our drivers was the main focus,” explained team owner Jean-Marc Valckenaere. “We worked our way into the top twenty during the sessions, but of course the real benchmark is qualifying for both races.”

In qualifying, Nathan Vanspringel ended up just over a second off pole, which in such a competitive field meant starting from P18. “The gaps are incredibly tight,” Valckenaere continued. “Half a second quicker and we would have been in the top ten.” Michiel Haverans, on his side, managed to extract a few more tenths and qualified an impressive sixth, only three tenths from pole.

The first race, however, proved a tough one for the young duo in the Ford Mustang GT4. “The downside of starting mid-pack is that things can get very heated, and Nathan unfortunately got caught up in a race incident. That forced us to retire early. A real shame, because both drivers had the pace to fight for the top ten.”

Strong top ten on Sunday

Sunday brought revenge, with a strong opening stint by Michiel Haverans, who charged towards the top five and managed to open a gap to the chasing pack. But just after the driver change, a safety car erased the advantage, putting Nathan Vanspringel right back into the heat of the battle.

“He did what he could, but obviously we wanted to avoid a repeat of Saturday’s scenario, so we decided to play it safe. That resulted in P10 and valuable championship points,” Valckenaere commented. “Nathan twice had to race in very difficult circumstances, but that only fuels his motivation to perform in Barcelona. Michiel keeps progressing at every event and impressed everyone with his outright speed this weekend. He too is determined to sign off the season in Barcelona with nothing less than a strong result.”

Next stop: October 11-12 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the GT4 European Series finale!
